Lifeguards w…ill be adding the purple flag for an increased presence of stinging marine pests. Use warm water, NOT ICE, for jellyfish sting pain relief. Distilled vinegar also works if you have the solution readily available when you’re on the beach. While most reactions to a sting are not life-threatening, call 9-1-1 immediately if you or someone you’re with begins to experience shortness of breath, hives, swelling near their mouth and/or throat, or other signs of serious allergic reaction to a jellyfish sting.
